Nazaré
and Óbidos
I won't lie--at this
point of the trip I was sincerely sick of driving. When we finally escaped
the lunatic drivers on the winding roads of the north we encountered the
most convoluted detour one could imagine on the way to Coimbra. The last
thing I wanted was more driving. We were also wearing dirty clothes after
being rebuffed in our efforts to do our laundry in Coimbra. This adds
up to crabbiness.
Despite
this, our two stops in Nazaré and Óbidos turned out to be just
what the doctor ordered in terms of refreshing pit stops. Both were quick
stops of a few hours and both were pretty touristy, but both were also
well worth seeing before we hit the home stretch of the vacation in the
Alentejo.
